2019 Free Tree Program--Seedling Roundup

The Forestry Fellowship and the Federated Garden Clubs of Greater Cincinnati are teaming up again to count, bag and box 5200 Bald Cypress tree seedlings for our annual Spring giveaway thru the Public Libraries and other groups. As always, we are counting on you, so please lend a hand! Let’s work together to help kids discover the rewards of planting trees! Extra seedlings are available for volunteers.

Willow Live Staking with Mill Creek Allianc

Join us for willow live staking and tree planting along the Mill Creek in Sharonville, Evendale, and Reading. Gather at 11 a.m., Saturday March 30th, at the shelter house at Twin Creek Preserve, 12033 Best Place (45241), next to Berke soccer complex. Weather permitting, we will paddle, plant, and post live stakes along the banks of the creek until 4 pm. Current plan is to "take-out" canoes at Koenig Park in Reading.

Come wearing waders, boots, or sturdy shoes that you don't mind getting wet and muddy. No open toed shoes allowed. Some canoe dragging over low head dams and boulders will be necessary. 

Rain date is 11 am Saturday, April 6, same location/details.

We’ll be planting and sheltering 100 of the same, small bare rooted seedlings we give away.  
No heavy lifting required. Boots, gloves and a water bottle are recommended, tools will be provided.

Reforest Northern Kentucky 
April 13, 2019 - 9:30 am - 11:30 pm

Reforest Northern Kentucky is an annual, all-volunteer project organized by the Council to restore native Kentucky woodlands. The reforestation project is responsible for planting thousands of tree seedlings on public, protected previously mowed properties in Boone, Kenton and Campbell Counties.

Seedling Planting / Farmer Assistance

Dedicated tree farmer Jerry McNulty needs our help!
This spring he ordered 1,700 seedlings and then took ill.His farm is atop Balcony Hill in Aberdeen, OH, high above the Ohio River overlooking Maysville.  We’ll be planting small bare rooted seedlings— No heavy lifting required!

***Boots and gloves are recommended. Tools, lunch, and drinks will be provided. ***

 Working with private landowners produces our most successful plantings. And donations from grateful farmers help fund activities like the Free Tree Program! 

The Jerry McNulty Planting in Aberdeen Saturday 4/27 is DONE and CANCELLED.

The crew working last Saturday made excellent progress, and Mr. McNulty and friends were able to finish Tues. morning.

If you’re still looking for some forestry and fresh-air this Saturday (4/27), we will be planting Baldcypress at the OVFF’s property and have a planters picnic.

Meet at the cabin Saturday AM, hike down to the OVFF noonish. Hot dogs provided. Feel free to bring something to share.

 OVFF is teaming up with Hamilton Co. SWCD to plant 1,000 live stakes (tree cuttings) along the eroded Great Miami River banks.  Some work will be accessed with canoes. Register at www.hcswcd.org/livestaking

Volunteer Appreciation Picnic


Please join Ohio Valley Forestry Fellowship, October 13, 2018 at Area 22 in Mt. Airy Forest as we honor our volunteers.

The OVFF will be recognizing 2 outstanding volunteers and planting 10 trees in the park! 

Tree planting will begin at 10 a.m. If you would like to help plant come early. 
We will be grilling out hamburgers, hotdogs and mets for lunch along with some delicious sides and drinks from 12 - 2 p.m. 

We're ordering seedlings for Spring soon. Like a specific tree? Come vote for your favorite! We will also have corn-hole and volleyball games going.

2015 OVFF Tree Giveaway

4,000 White Oak seedlings are coming, and we need your help! 

Have fun helping to bag seedlings for distribution!

Ohio Valley Forestry Fellowship is once again teaming with the Greater Cincinnati Federated Garden Clubs for our annual spring tree giveaway. But first we need to prepare the seedlings! Join us as we individually bag 4,000 White Oak seedlings for distribution to libraries and schools on the following day. Friends and family are welcome!Learn how your organization can do a tree bagging project of your own! We work in assembly line fashion; the work is easy and it's fun spending time with others who share your passion for planting trees.

As usual we'll set aside some seedlings for volunteers to take home and plant!  Wear comfortable clothing. We hope to see you at the tree bagging!

Mar 23, 2013: OVFF plants 80 Black Walnut seedlings at Greenacres!

On March 23, 2013, we continued to expand the forest area at Greenacres behind the Old Church by planting 80 Black Walnut Trees.

2013: OVFF plants 300 mixed pine and hardwood seedlings at landowner's Indiana Property

OVFF continued our practice of assisting property owners to remove hilly land from lawn or crop production by planting 300 mixed pine/hardwood seedlings on the Rettig family property on Jackson Ridge Rd outside Bright, Indiana.

April 6, 2013, 8am-4pm: OVFF assists Cincinnati Zoo with Wetland Restoration!                                               

The OVFF is teaming up with the Cincinnati Zoo to replant wetlands, on a preserve of theirs, north of Mason, Ohio. We will be planting 3,000 mixed hardwood seedlings of a variety of native hardwoods. All you need to bring are some sturdy boots or shoes and maybe some gloves ( it will be wet). We will have plenty of shovels and planting bars along with some gloves. Bring a friend or come and meet some new friends. If you need to come later or need to leave early, no worries – even a couple hours of your time will make a difference. Food and drinks will be provided.

 

Where: 2210 Mason-Montgomery Rd., 3 miles north of Mason Ohio. Take I-71 north to the Fields Ertel exit and go north on Mason-Montgomery Rd. through Mason and 3 miles north of Mason there will be an old barn on the right. Look for the OVFF banner just past the barn. 2/10th of a mile past the barn, Mason-Montgomery ends at Hamilton Rd.

 

Rain date or finish up date will be April 7th

April 20, 2013, 8am-noon: OVFF assists Ohio DNR with Clermont Co. ALB Replanting!


The OVFF is also working with the Ohio DNR Clermont Co. ALB replanting project. They have a replanting project on April 20th to replace trees taken down due to the Asian Longhorn Beetle. The trees to be replanted are potted with approximately 1” trunks. They are planning on planting 100-200 trees. The project is to assist local homeowners who have lost trees and they are looking for volunteers to help. 2011 OVFF Tree Plantings

Apr 2, 2011, 9am-2pm: OVFF assists to Reforest Woodland Mound Park!
 
This year, we will be planting 450 mixed hardwood seedlings with deer protectors at this beautiful Hamilton County park overlooking the Ohio River valley. We will be replacing trees that have been damaged by the Ash Borers. Come and help replant an old forest. This a great way to enjoy the outdoors with friends, new and old. Stay to enjoy other activities in the park.
 
Directions: The address is 8250 Old Kellogg Rd. From I-275, go west on Rt. 125 (Beechmont Ave.), left on Nordyke Road to park entrance on the right. Also accessible via U.S. 52 left on Eight Mile Road, right on Old Kellogg to park entrance on left. Look for the OVFF banner and other signs directing you to the planting site.
 
We'll be planting small bare rooted seedlings - no heavy lifting required! If you've never seen the quick method foresters use to plant seedlings, you'll be impressed. Boots and gloves are recommended, tools will be available. Lunch and drinks will be provided.
 
Mark your calender! Don't worry if you can't come early or spend more that an hour or so; We always work tag-team style with volunteers coming and going throughout the day.

March 30, 2011, 7-9pm: OVFF Tree-Bagging and Giveaway!

Once again the Ohio Valley Forestry Fellowship in co-operation with the Civic Garden Center, is sponsoring the

Arbor Day Free Tree Giveaway!!!

The Ohio Valley Forestry Fellowship is donating 3,000 Hickory seedlings to be distributed at Cincinnati Public Libraries on Arbor Day.  We need your help to prepare the seedlings for distribution!  The work is fun and will go quickly with enough volunteers!  Every volunteer will receive a free seedling!  Snacks and beverages will be provided.
